An ode to the free box and more
Here's an article by Antonya Nelson in the July 2009 issue of Smithsonian magazine. Telluride out of the box, or is the free box.
Tom White at the Palm Theater
Tom White graces the stage of the Palm Theatre for a very special performance. Playing Debussy, Chopin, Bach and concluding with the Beethoven Waldstein Sonata. This is Tom's second performance at the Palm, and he's also performed at the Sheridan Opera House in 2004. After living in Telluride for 6 years Tom left last year to get his masters degree in piano performance at the University of Northern Colorado. This is a brand new program that he's been working on all year. This performance would not be possible without funding from TCAH and help from both the Telluride Chamber Music Festival and the Palm Theater. - Telluride Council for the Arts and HumanitiesJoin us for this special evening with Tom White at the Palm Theater on Saturday, August 1st at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 and kids 18 and younger get in FREE.
This concert will also be streaming live on KOTO.
For a taste of what Tom will be performing, check out Debussy's Suite Bergamasque, Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata, and Bach's English Suite No. 2.

What will happen to Telluride in twenty years?
By 2030, the people of this part of Colorado are likely to have several thousand newneighbors in San Miguel and Ouray Counties, if not more. While many new residents will live in Telluride and Mountain Village, the great majority of newcomers to the region will settle in the West End, Ridgway, towards Montrose, and in the smaller towns in the area. These new residents will create and fill jobs and contribute to the economy. They will pay taxes. They will enroll children in the schools and increasingly draw on and demand government services. They will also be joining you on the roads, driving to work, shopping, school and recreation. Every community in the region will be effected in many ways as the economic, social and visual landscape changes. On June 25th, please join us as we will describe the forces that will shape the future of the region and the kinds of private and public decisions that will determine the location, extent and impact of the changes.
June 25th at 4pm at the Michael D. Palm Theater in Telluride
This is the public presentation of two years of research, investigation and computer modeling to project the 20-30 year economic, ecological and community impacts of various future scenarios for the Telluride region.

"Weird Al" Yankovic Live!

You must check out "Weird Al" LIVE! Seriously. Don't laugh. I mean, you are supposed to laugh, but in this family-friendly and entertaining DVD, Alfred and his very talented band put on quite a show. Give it a try, or as "Weird Al" might say, "dare to be stupid!"
