Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As ev'ry fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

The Mother Garden

The Mother Garden, short stories, by the very talented Robin Romm is a selection that clearly was written when her mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The writing is splendid, but the subject matter is often introspective and difficult. This should not dissuade those readers who want a glimpse of her fine writing, always mesmerising. The title story is disturbing and alluring at the same time, a challenging moment for the reader. Not for anyone looking for a light, entertaining read, but for those ready to dip into some melancholy and upheaval there is plenty to satisfy. M

10 Coolest Laptops

This may look like a Victorian music box, but inside this intricately hand-crafted wooden case lives a Hewlett-Packard ZT1000 laptop that runs both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. It features an elaborate display of clockworks under glass, engraved brass accents, claw feet, an antiqued copper keyboard and mouse, leather wrist pads, and customized wireless network card. The machine turns on with an antique clock-winding key by way of a custom-built ratcheting switch made from old clock parts.

ORBITER ~ Free Flight Simulator

ORBITER is a free flight simulator that goes beyond the confines of Earth's atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system - the choice is yours.

But make no mistake - ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep. Be prepared to invest some time and effort to brush up on your orbital mechanics background.

Love Stories in This Town

'Love Stories in This Town' is a quick satisfying compilation of short stories. The first half of the book contains stories that have a variety of women characters, each rewarding and diverse. The stories range in life situations and locations, from Montana to New York. The second half of the book is devoted to 'The Lola Stories", focusing on one central character as she moves through different life events. Subtle and keen, this a pleasure to read.

Considering Planet Earth

"We read that simply turning off PCs at night can save up to 60 percent of an organization’s IT energy consumption costs. Whether that’s an appropriate figure in your case or not, the bottom line is that you can save money—and maybe the planet—by powering down whenever possible." - ACUTA eNews Sept 2009

Then We Came to the End

A very funny novel about the ennui that settles over office cubicles and erodes all common sense. This contemporary, well written novel gives insight into the disturbed and sometimes tender moments that occur between the 59th and 62nd floors of an advertising agency in Chicago. Told with a humor that elicits laughs that will stick with us for a long time. Recommended to anyone that has ever had a job, been annoyed, or maybe felt guilty for playing an inappropriate practical joke.
